Ardrossan many is a fascinating port located on Gulf St. Vincent’s west side. It is the biggest among the ports on Yorke Peninsula with a large bulk grain loading station and jetty. Although the town is a popular tourist destination with great fishing spots and swimming areas, it is also a flourishing port exporting dolomite and wheat.
Prior to European settlement the region was home to the Narungga Aborigines. The early European settlers in the region first lived in dugouts. Around 1870 a town was surveyed and was named by Governor Fergusson after a port in Ayrshire, Scotland. In 1877, the town jetty was built and utilised a tramway system in loading vessels.
